PSYCHOLOGY IS GRANTED UNIVERSITY APPROVED SUBJECT STATUS

NZAPT is utterly delighted to announce that NZQA has informed the association that level 3 Psychology standards will be added to the approved subjects list for University Entrance from April 2019. This means that students studying level 3 next year can use these standards in their UE qualification.

The campaign to have psychology recognised as a rigorous, academic subject deserving of UE status has been long and determined. NZAPT would like to
acknowledge and thank the many people who

have worked towards this outcome as well as our many supporter and advocates. This includes former NZAPT committee members, school principals, people at NZQA and the Ministry of Education as well as our valued colleagues in university psychology departments around the country.

The New Zealand Association of Psychology Teachers is pleased, proud and excited to announce that we have been awarded a Ministry of Education contract for the next two years under the 'Networks of Expertise' initiative. Networks of Expertise are designed to provide subject specific professional development support for teachers. The focus of the Network set up by NZAPT will include strengthening existing supports such as our annual professional development workshop as well as developing new initiatives to provide resources, peer support and networks for new and experienced teachers of psychology in new Zealand.
