Benefits of Joining NZAPT

Hey there fellow psychology teachers! As the chairperson of the New Zealand Association of Psychology Teachers, I'm here to tell you all about the awesome benefits of being on the committee. Trust me, it's a pretty sweet gig!

First off, being on a committee means connecting with other teachers who share your passion for teaching and learning. You'll make valuable connections and friendships that can help you grow professionally! If you are reading this as the sole psychology teacher in your school you may feel isolated, having these connections can make a huge difference.

Secondly, you get to be a part of the decision-making process that shapes professional development opportunities for psychology teachers in New Zealand. Your voice matters and you get to contribute to programs that can impact students and teachers nationwide.

Thirdly, being on a committee is like a golden ticket to professional development heaven. You'll get access to training sessions and workshops that will help you develop new skills and knowledge. Plus, you'll have all the resources you need to stay on top of the latest trends and research around psychology, especially within an Aotearoa context.

Fourthly, all that committee work will make you an even better teacher. By working alongside other educators, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the pedagogy needed to teach psychology and be better equipped to support your students and colleagues.

And finally, being on a committee is just plain awesome. You get to be part of a team that's working towards a common goal, and that sense of accomplishment and camaraderie is hard to beat.

So there you have it folks, being on a teaching association committee is pretty much the bees knees. If you're looking to expand your professional network, make a difference in the education sector, or just have a good time with some awesome people, then I highly recommend giving it a go!

We are always looking for people who would like to join the committee, we have active opportunities or shadowing roles if you would like to dip your toe in to see if you like it.
