NZAPT Greater Christchurch Regional Hub Hui
The psychology teaching community came together recently to strengthen connections and share invaluable classroom insights.
Teachers opened their classroom doors, sharing their favourite activities and resources. Teachers really enjoyed learning about how teachers include guest speakers, hands on activities to teach attachment as well as interesting contexts. We discussed Level Three Fields and Research in depth and built some key knowledge and activities which teachers can use.
A significant focus on scholarship and critiquing the diverse research methods used in Psychology s segment sparked discussions, with teachers sharing ways to make data analysis less intimidating and more meaningful for students. Teachers did get a resource breaking down the research question resource booklet which they will find useful for their students.
Significantly, University of Canterbury are looking at having Psychology as a teaching subject, potentially bringing fresh psychology expertise into classrooms.
Looking ahead, we will use facebook chat group to support each other.. As psychology teachers know well, learning is most powerful when it happens in community – and we look to meet again in Term Three.
